Who are we?

On a predictable day, I‘m a casual chicstress. Staples like white tops, jeans and LBDs have found a happy home in my closet.

When in doubt, I pop neutral colours – black and white know me by name. I’m that girl with the same top in three colours – goes a long way. Far as accessories go, I‘m no miser; I pile them on like it’s going out of fashion.

Layering is one great way to fuel the rumour that one ‘has clothes’. If I ever need a personal shopper to hunt for bargains, I’m my girl. Two things: 1, you’re never overdressed and 2, always keep a boot full of hot heels!

If it’s loud, bold and comfy, I am definitely buying it. I love my dresses. Seriously, give me dresses and skirts any day and I’m a happy girly.

My style is feisty, yet comfortable and definitely mine. I buy things that are on trend but mix and match them according to my mood.

When it comes to my high heels, the higher the heel the better. My heels have to make a statement, as do my jeans. Well, all my clothes really – they have to speak to me. I don’t care for designer labels. I know I can rock any outfit because I’ll give it my flavour.

Trend Alert: Unique Jumpsuits!

From plain to printed, to lace and floral we’ve fallen in love with unique jumpsuits.

One of our favourites has to be the floral print jumpsuit from Foschini’s ‘Cuba meets Africa’ range. Phathu paired her floral print playsuit with high heeled sandals and a summer hat.

Probably the most fab thing about this jumpsuit is that you can easily dress it up or down or transition from day to night.

Add metallic flats and bangles for a chic effect or heels on a night out and you have a sexy, feminine look.

Brogues, Brogues, Brogues

Practical, stylish without effort, and following in the footsteps of the fashion pack are some of the words I use to describe my brogues.

I’ve always been a lover of heels but a recent injury had me reassessing my relationship with heels and giving brogues a second look.

Today I stepped out in a lovely brown leather pair of Foschini brogues which I wore with a black A-line dress and a fur gilet pull over for that glam effect.

Do you own a pair of brogues, tag us and show us how you wear your pair of brogues.

Yellow – the colour of summer

We can officially say it’s summer time!  Well, in fashion it is. So, ditch your neutrals and dark tones and inject your wardrobe with a pop of colour – from punchy citrus to our favourite colour – a burst of canary yellow.

The bolder and brighter it is – the better. We love how fashionista Bontle Mogoye brought sunshine in her outfit.  She paired her bright yellow sleeveless blazer with distressed denims, a white tee and a pair of yellow peep toes.

Not one to shy away from colour she chose a bright pink lip to complement her look.

So who else is having a yellow summer?

Heeled sandals are back!

Spring is back, which means one thing – we can wear heeled sandals again.

There’s a hot variety just about everywhere. Cut out sandals look great, fringe is edgy – detail is everything.

If you’re like us, colourful toe nails are a must. File them, buff them and paint away. Switch up your colour and have fun! Our go-go colours are nude, red, pink.

Distressed and Chic

You can wear distressed denim and still look polished. Be it skinny, boyfriend or cropped, ripped jeans are a hot denim trend.

Last night we took distressed denim to a new level at the launch of the new River Island store at Sandton City. And yes, it was a coincidence!

Phathu redefined chic in light washed ripped boyfriend jean, an oversized black top, chunky necklace, a black coat and an oversized bag to complete the look.

Phathu River Island

Mili sizzled in dark blue ripped skinny jeanss, a black and white body suit, black boyfriend blazer and and a pair of pale pink heels.

Suited up

Sometimes we borrow from the boys and suit up – tastefully, of course. When suiting up, it’s important to choose a suit that’s perfectly tailored so you look amazing and just, well, stylish.

Phathu took monochrome to another level when she donned this white suit with a sheer black blouse and nude heels. As usual, her accessories were kept to a minimum, opting for a white leather skinny belt and drop earrings. So trendy!

Not one to shy away from colour, Mili worked her burnt orange double-breasted suit with a black and white top, pale pink heels and a red clutch.

Our tip: Mix and match stylish pieces for the best pairing.

We love bold lipsticks

When it comes to make-up, nothing rivals the power of a bold lip. Gorgeous lips elevate your outfit, and make a statement. Phathu and I both love bold lipsticks.

As you can see my go-to colour is a fierce red lippie from Yardley while hers is a deep purple from Revlon  Ladies, what’s your go-to lippie?

We love classic black pants

A wardrobe essential for every season is a pair of classic black pants. It’s the building block to almost any look, PLUS it does wonders for your figure.

Dress it up, down or go corporate chic, like Mili did. She wore hers with a pair of cobalt suede heels, black shirt and grey knit jersey.

She kept her accessories to a minimum, wearing only a chunky beaded neckpiece to let the pants be the centre of attention.

All things knitwear!

Chilly days are here, stay warm and look stylish in knitwear this winter. Mili wore her oversized black and white knit jersey with black thick stockings, block heels, a white shirt, as well as a leather mini. The accessories were kept to a minimum: gold studs and a black pendant. Her hair was tied in a high bun, which made this look quite chic.

Tip: Wear this season’s knits with skinny jeans, leggings, jeggings or even jumpers for the ultimate warm and comfy look.

How to wear black this Autumn

An all black ensemble is one way to tackle the cold. Not just for its heat absorption properties. It’s never out of style, it’s chic and easy to wear. One thing I really enjoy is playing around with textures, hence my leather leggings.

I wore them with a slouchy black shirt which was one of my key items during my pregnancy two years ago. My faux fur giilet is one of Autumn’s favourite colors, so I love the twist. My favorite thing about this look is perhaps the hat. I definitely think it’s time to bring back the hats.

Faux leather and fur

The faux leather skirt is fast becoming every girl’s go-to piece. If you’re daring like Mili, the black leather-look A-line skirt will complete plenty daytime-to-dinner outfits

Mili recently showed us how to make leather and fur work. She looked trendy in a black pleather mini, which she paired with red tights and black leather block heels. On top she wore a black lacy body suit and a faux fur gilet.

Show us how you rock your pleather skirt, we’d love to see your style. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram more of our day to day looks.

Be bold and visible – Red My Lips

Throughout April we’ll be wearing our favorite red lipsticks. It’s not just because it looks great and we love it.

We’re helping to raise awareness about sexual abuse and to encourage speaking out against victim blaming.

It’s a cause we both believe in, and we hope we some day build a society where we’ll no longer be afraid to speak out. May we be as bold and visible as red lips.

Get your pleats on!

I’m officially obsessed with pleats! I got my Navy pleated skirt from Foschini this year and vowed to get another one. Needless to say, when I saw this pink one I knew I HAD to have it.

Pleated skirts are cool, flirty and feminine, as a skirt should be. The best part? The pleats are permanently pressed so you don’t have to deal with the iron every time you wear them!

This pink pleated midi a classic for any kind of wardrobe style. Try with a sweater, crop top or flats to keep the look casual, or go corporate chic like I did in a lacy black bodysuit, bright accessories and a pair of black patent leather heels.

Spotting polka dots

One trend that stays hot year in, year out is definitely polka dot. It’s a statement print which is simple to wear. Did I mention that it’s timeless too?

I love my green and white polka dot skirt. An up and coming designer called Phumudzo Ramabulana made it for me. It’s also a high-low length, which makes it uber-fashionable. I wore the skirt with a white crop top, mostly because of its high waist.

A fedora is one of my go-to items, so wearing one for this look was no question. I went for a brown one and added some nude heels for continuity. All right, good to go.

Suiting up in a shirt dress

The occasion was the second Grazia Night at the Oscars event. I skipped the evening dress and rocked something a little less conventional on the red carpet.

A white shirt dress and black sleeveless blazer are one of fashion’s hottest couples right now. I can bet they’ll be getting plenty of attention this Autumn.

I love a classy look, so I wore my shirt dress and blazer with a bow-tie, a wide-brim hat and faux-leather gloves, keeping it clean and monochromatic. Red heels broke away from the black and white look and introduced a fierce pop of colour; which I’m about.

So, did I do well?

Inside The Closet: Mili

Screen Shot 2015-02-19 at 3.01.07 PM

Mili’s bubbly persona matches her ever-evolving fashion sense, which she constantly uses a way of self-expression. A girl whose bright makeup bag is her best friend. You won’t catch her looking drab; she’d rather arrive fashionably late, which in itself is no crime really.

What’s your signature style?

It’s comfy, edgy and sometimes funky. I follow trends but I also mix and match my own clothes and come up with outfits that are ‘me’, feminine and show off my best assets.

Who’s your style icon?

My late aunt, who was forever stylish, a ‘10’ as Phathu and I would say. She’d rock anything from a flowy maxi dress to skinny jeans with a crisp white shirt. Her taste was timeless – most of my style is what she wore. She silently taught me that a woman could wear anything and just be awesome.

Fave item of clothes:

Generally, I’d pick a dress, but I’m crazy about a stunning black lace detail jumpsuit, which I bought last year. It’s sexy, trendy and exquisitely feminine.

What trend have you been meaning to try?

I’ve been meaning to try the sports-luxe trend with sneakers. The problem is I can’t function in flats; I’d need a great pair of sneakers to persuade me.

Which beauty products can’t you live without?

It’s Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse for keeping me flawless. I’m also a fan of Rimmel mascara, which pumps up my lashes. My Yardley matte red lipstick offers long-lasting wear – love it!

Casual chic: Valentine’s look

Classy pleats? Yes, please!

Pleated skirts are a classic look any girl can rock to practically anywhere. Agreed? We love our navy pleated midi skirts from Foschini. The black and white sports elasticated waistband adds an edge to it, yum. It’s also perfect if the sports luxe trend is your thing. Midi skirts are great transitional items – really easy to wear. Jersey, shirt, crop top, vest – if you can name it, you can wear it.

Phathu (http://instagram.com/phathumusitha) kept the top part dark, opting for a black vest and a sheer black sleeveless shirt, which she tied by the waist. A pair of pointy nude heels were ideal to break the dark colours. Jewellery was kept at a minimum (yes, minimum to Phathu ;-)) and a long hanging gold necklace did the trick. Talk about a simple but effective office look.

Mili (http://instagram.com/milirazzi) contrasted her look with a light wash denim shirt. She also wore a blue beaded neckpiece and light blue studs. For an exquisite needed lift, her leather and suede navy leather ankle boots, also from Foschini, came in handy. This look goes down as one of Mili’s ‘look good, feel good looks’ of the year so far.

Fashion Friends invade Foschini head office

After a glam, exciting two-day fashion shoot, we invaded the Foschini head offices in Parow yesterday, along with our fellow Fashion Friends. We were welcomed with yummy cupcakes and coffee in a black and white Coco Chanel inspired room, our fashion hearts leaped up to heaven. We each introduced ourselves to the Foschini buyers, planners, marketing team and the MD himself. Someone say nerve wracking?

Possibly the highlight of the visit was chatting with buyers and going through the latest and upcoming trends. We also played fashion consultants, giving our opinions on all the different garments and sharing suggestions on spicing things up. Talk about being blessed! The day ended with some rather sad goodbyes at the airport. We loved our brief modelling stint and can’t wait to share everything with you come April 16! We also can’t wait to walk in stores and spot ourselves. No, seriously.

All white and statement pieces

Every fashionista knows one thing for sure: white on white is a timeless trend. It’s an even bigger winner when worn classicly.

To make sure it’s anything but dull, I wore my white crepe pants and turtle neck vest with statement accessories. This neckpiece works wonderfully with a white top. Check out these dreamy snakeskin heels which I can’t get eniugh of.

Am I winning with this look?

Kimono mono-chrome

A kimono is a fabulous twist to an ordinary waterfall cardigan.

I’m crazy about this oversized white one with lace shoulder detail. Confession: I couldn’t find one in my size. Fortunately, this one still worked quite well for my petite frame.

I picked my go-to basics to complete my look: black leggings and a black top. Can you say monochrome?

Elegance at the launch of Fashion Friends

Saturday evening we dazzled at the Foschini Fashion Friends at the Sandton store. We both went for elegant dresses.

Phathu wore a Craig Jacobs aqua ‘Leah’ dress with a lime strap. She rocked white jewellery and heels for an unpredictable finish. An African map ring and studs matching the dress were a great finishing touch you’d notice at close range.

Mili went in her black maxi dress with a flirty slit. She paired it with a gold neckpiece, studs, gold plated belt and nude heels. She also added a red clutch for that pop of colour.

The evening was a ball – we had a moment on the mic introducing ourselves to the guests and we shopped up a mini storm. Each girl chose a pair of jeans that could rip, or not. Phathu went with white jeans and didn’t rip them. Mili went with navy and chose to rip them. A week later you bet we’ve both worn our jeans – hahaha!

It was an exciting night of fashion, not forgetting the awesome goodie bag filled with stylish tid-bits.

All white for high tea

White trended last week at the Fashion Friends high tea organised by Foschini to introduce the ambassadors to each other.

Phathu went all Kate Middleton on us rocking a white midi bodycon which accentuated her curves. She paired it with a gold plated belt and white heels. A classy white clutch bag and a navy fascinator sealed the oh-so-queenly look.

Mili wore a white mesh layered skater dress with a white belt and nude heels. She accessorised with a floral head wrap that matched her gold statemet necklace.

PS:  If you try only one trend this season, it should be the allwhite look. What do you think of our looks?

Colour… and then some

As I often say, a little bit of colour never killed anyone.

I love this colour-block shift dress with red and purple panels. The red panels spread to the back of the dress, making for something unexpected. The dress is stylish and classy. It’s by the fashion house MUSE and a treasured gift from my mom. Yes, she still gets me clothes now and then.

I went all matchy, choosing red strap heels and a red bag to polish off my look. If you can see well, my lips are purple – hahaha!

Fashion Friday

The denim shirt is a classic, versatile wardrobe staple that can be worn with a variety of bottoms. We both stepped out in ensembles that included a denim shirt (we promise it’s a coincidence)

Mili went for a funky look, pairing her light wash denim shirt over a printed skater dress with yellow box heels and a chunky necklace.

Phathu, on the other hand, went for corporate chic, she wore her dark wash denim shirt with a printed skater skirt. She stacked up with bold gold and black accessories to give the look an edge.

Getting glam

If there’s one thing I fell in love with recently it’s this black and gold trim dress from Foschini.

I love the beaded detail just below the neck. One word: elegant. Totally works for date night or a glam night out. The things it does for the figure are m-a-g-i-c.

I wore it during the Cosmo Covergirl event, which I attended earlier this month. As you can imagine, it’s a dress I definitely didn’t want to remove.

Pearly class

Popped by True Love Magazine for a video shoot, so the occasion called for something classy, something sassy.

I wore a cream bodycon dress by Karen Millen – a treasured gift from my mom. Since I wore stockings and black heels, my look was quite simple. I had to pick perfect accessories to jazz it up, so I went with a gold-plated belt and a pearl and gold neckpiece.

I absolutely love this pearl and gold necklace from Ntozinhle Jewellery. They have some stunning items.

Fab and fly

Anyone who has met us knows that we love getting dolled up, pampered and attending the hottest events in town.  We were so stoked to visit the iconic True Love magazine for a video shoot in their offices.

The visit included a doll-up session and a fab goodie bag. That’s totally up our alley! Thank you True Love magazine for making us look and feel like royalty.
